The Hollyburn Hurricanes is a small team with about 90 team swimmers, but has been highly successful in recent years at ranking way above where you would expect for a team of our size.  As you may know, the team has been trying to raise funds for a new electronic scoreboard (Daktronics Aquatics Scoreboard)  which would be a permanent addition to the south-side wall in the pool area.  The scoreboard would link to automatic timing pads which are inserted into the pool at swim meets to time each swimmers race.

Why do we want an upgraded scoreboard?

-> A new scoreboard will give more racing opportunities to swimmers of all ages!

-> A full scoreboard will allow display of individual times for all swimmers and spectators!

-> Hollyburn has been running more events that suit the needs of our swimmers, a scoreboard will allow us to run them at a higher level!

-> A scoreboard will allow us to have one of the best short course competition facilities in the lower mainland!

The cost of the timing system is approx. $30,000 and between the fundraising efforts so far, and contributions from the Hollyburn Club, we have raised approx. $15,000.  The Hurricanes Swim Team now needs to raise the final $15,000 to purchase and install the scoreboard.

At the Hurricanes awards banquet on June 11th we will be fundraising in the following ways:

Firstly, we will be holding a silent auction for the following AMAZING items -

i)    Women’s Canadian Olympic racing suit – Speedo LZR Pure Intent Fastskin (size 20).  Signed by members of Team Canada's swim team: Danielle Doris and Aly Van Wyck-Smart.  This would look very cool framed even though unlikely to fit most!

ii)  Men’s Canadian Olympic racing suit -Speedo LZR Pure Intent Fastskin (size 24). Signed by member of Team Canada's swim team: Finley Knox, Hau-Li Fan, Katrina Bellio and Yuri Kisil. Again, would look awesome framed!

iii)  Cactus Club gift voucher $100

iv) Team Aquatic supplies gift voucher $75

v) Team Aquatic Supplies gift voucher $50

Secondly, we will be asking you all to sign up to make a donation toward the scoreboard.
For every $25 donated, your name will go into a hat.  At the end of the night, names will be chosen from the hat to win one (or more) of the following awesome prizes:

i)                  Speedo kickboard and Speedo Junior pull buoy

ii)                 Swim Canada scarf and toque

iii)                Swim Canada T-shirt

iv)                Swim Canada T-shirt

v)                 Swim Canada T-shirt

vi)                Swim Canada T-shirt

vii)               Swim Canada stainless steel, vacuum insulated water bottle

viii)              Swim Canada stainless steel, vacuum insulated water bottle

ix)                 2 x BC Lions tickets – choice of 3 games

x)                  4 x Whitecaps tickets  - Weds 17th July @ 7.30pm

All of the above items will be on display at the banquet, and we hope you will all be interested in bidding on the silent auction items and making a donation.

If you cannot attend the banquet but would like to make a donation to be entered for the prize draw or bid on any of the silent auction items, please email me or Victoria McMillan at mcmillanvictoria5@gmail.com.
