Chena Gators LMR Meet - March 2026

We had four swimmers competing in the Chena Gators LMR Meet this weekend to kick off their spring break! Lydia, Chelsea, Holly, and Sarah competed in a variety of different individual events and finished off the session together with a 4x50m Freestyle Relay!

Lydia started the session off for the team with a 200m Freestyle. She attacked the first 50 with a ton of speed and was the first person to turn at the 50 meter mark! She did a great job pacing her way through the rest of the race and executed her race plan extremely well to achieve a huge 15 second personal best! Lydia’s second race was the 50m Breaststroke, where she did an excellent job using her glide to carry her speed to another personal best! Lydia’s last individual event was the 100m Backstroke and she did a great job using her kick to propel herself to best time! Great job Lydia!

Chelsea joined Lydia in starting off the session with a 200m Freestyle. Chelsea did a great job pacing herself to a personal best with a well executed race plan. She raced especially well in the third 50 of the swim when she fought off a third 50 push from one of her competitors to win her heat! Chelsea’s second race was the 50m Freestyle where she did a great job with her speed into the turns and finishes, racing hard all the way to the end of the race! Chelsea’s last individual event was the 200m Breaststroke and she did an excellent job at using her glide to keep her speed up for the whole race. She was very consistent through the whole swim, and dropped nearly 30 seconds from her previous best time! Great work Chelsea!

Holly started off her session with the 50m Breaststroke. She did a great job holding a long glide at the beginning of the race and accelerating her stroke into the finish, breaking 50 seconds for the first time! Holly had a quick turnaround after her 50m Breaststroke into her second race, the 100m Butterfly. She did a great job attacking the first 25 to get her speed up and fought off her fatigue to finish the race strong! Holly’s last individual event was the 400m Individual Medley, which she raced last year at this very same meet. Holly did an excellent job attacking the front half of her race and then rallying for the finish, capping off her individual events with a 28 second personal best! Great job Holly!

Sarah started her session off with the 100m Butterfly. Sarah started this race fast and did a great job controlling her breathing through the first 50 meters. She was very strong in her last 50 meters and broke the 2-minute mark for the very first time! Sarah’s second race was the 50m Freestyle where she tried out a new breathing pattern to help get some extra speed. She raced very well in the last 25 meters and finished strong in a new best time! Sarah’s last individual event was the 400m Individual Medley – her first one ever! She did an amazing job tackling one of the hardest events in the pool and showed great resilience through the whole swim! Great job Sarah!

The last race of the session for all four swimmers was the 4x50m Freestyle Relay. They did a great job rallying together for the team performance after a tough session of racing and came away with a heat winning swim! Great job swimmers and have a good spring break!

Provincial Championships - March 2026

   more photos!

Another strong Provincials for our team with a third place finish in the new small teams category! Our team raced to 15 new team records including 4 relay records at the meet! We had six different swimmers race in finals, congratulations to Lauryn, Freya, Burton, Pippa, Audrey and Weiss! Everyone was a part of our team success individually and on relays, here are some highlights!

Lauryn had a very strong Provincials reaching finals in all three backstroke events! She lowered her team record in the 100m Backstroke with a very well paced swim in finals! Lauryn also just missed the final with a fast 50m Freestyle to start the meet!

Freya was racing at her first Provincials where she showed a lot of maturity and determination through the meet! Her first event did not go as she was hoping but she stayed focused and really worked on her stroke to race to a best time in her 100m Breaststroke two days later! She really went after the 50m Breaststroke on Sunday to drop two seconds and race into finals after entering the event 22nd! Another drop in finals to a very fast 36.84!

Stella had a great meet! She had very strong breakouts to race ahead of her heats and finish with big best times in both the 50m Breaststroke and 100m Breaststroke!

Timothy was just off his best times in the freestyle events but he really stepped up on our relays! Timothy consistently swims to new speeds every time he is racing for his teammates!

Emma raced to her best time in the 100m Freestyle with a very fast second half! She also stepped up on our relays and was always the fastest finisher in all of her races!

Burton was competing in a very deep 17&over category with a lot of varsity swimmers taking last chances at their usport times. He raced to best morning swims throughout the meet, racing to new best times in his butterfly events! Burton followed a solid 100m Breaststroke in prelims with a very fast race in finals, racing out to his best 50m Breaststroke time on the way lowering his 100m Breaststroke team record and finishing with a Bronze medal! Burton also raced to a new team record and a fourth place finish in the 50m Breaststroke final!

Pippa really got after her backstroke events, racing out fast in her 100m Backstroke to reach finals! She followed it up with a very well paced 200m Backstroke to final again!

Nicolas just moved up to the 13-14 age group and made the most of his three races with best times in all three backstroke events! His 200m Backstroke was very impressive as he went out just over his best 100m time to race under 2:20 for the first time!

Bayden really stepped up at Divisionals to qualify for Provincials and raced really well two weeks later. It’s always tough to better big break through swims right after they happen but he had a lot of speed to just miss his best 100m Breaststroke time!

Audrey had an amazing meet, her first Provincials in the 13-14 age group. Audrey finished with three trips to the medal podium, finishing second in the 200m Butterfly, third in the 100m Butterfly and third in the 50m Butterfly! She set new team records in all three events and also raced in finals in the 200m Backstroke! Audrey needed a ten lane pool as she finished in the alternate positions (9th/10th) in the 400m Individual Medley, 200m Freestyle, 100m Backstroke, 200m Individual Medley and the 400m Freestyle. All of those finishes were very impressive at the bottom of her age group as she took off time in all but one event (just missed by .3)! It will be very exciting to see her improve those results at Summer Provincials!

Weiss raced to a bronze medal in the 100m Butterfly with a big best time! He also set new team records in the 400m Freestyle, 100m Backstroke and 200m Backstroke by holding his speed through the second half of each race! Weiss had a busy schedule making finals in the 100m Butterfly, 100m Backstroke, 50m Butterfly, 200m Backstroke, 50m Backstroke and 400m Freestyle in a very deep 15-16 year old field.

SwimBC Divisional Championships - February 2026

   more photos!

Winter Divisional Championships has always been a strong meet for our team and this year exceeded expectations! As a team we raced to 70 best times, 29 medals and 13 new Provincial time standards! Our swimmers raced well in heats, with many swimmers moving up the rankings to qualify for finals! Our finals were really strong as well with some incredible racing for medals each session! We had a great team presence on deck, doing a great job supporting each other throughout the meet!

One of our best stories from the meet was the incredible swimming by Maelie. Maelie just moved into the Typhoon group this year, has adapted to the training and really worked hard the past few months. She stepped up Friday morning with huge best times, her 38.32 in the 50m Breaststroke put her first in the event and she raced to a very impressive 37.91 in finals to win the gold medal! Maelie continued her fast swimming throughout the weekend, racing in finals in all of the breaststroke events with huge best times, qualifying her for 13-14 Divisionals in all three events!

Freya had a fantastic meet, with great morning swims followed by big improvements in her finals! Most impressively, Freya took off from lane 1 in the 200m Breaststroke final, dropping 11 seconds off her best time to win the event with a very fast 2:55.08 to qualify her for Provincials!

Mika was on fire throughout the meet! She went after every race, going for the early lead with fast breakout speed and then working to hold on throughout each race to finish with all best times and some new Divisional standards!

Emma also raced to all best times, showing more confidence in her ability to go out strong and still come back fast in her events! She made big drops in all three butterfly events thanks to a lot of butterfly pull over the past few months! She also put together a very fast 200m Freestyle, getting after the first 100 and holding on to qualify for Provincials and Best of the West in the event!

Oliver added at least one Provincial event each day with fast speed across his 50m and 100m sprint events leading to multiple trips to the medal podium! Oliver showed great stroke versatility with new Provincial times in backstroke, breaststroke and freestyle events!

Burton raced a lot of metres over the weekend, hitting new best times in his 400m Freestyle, 400m Individual Medley and 800m Freestyle! He also put together a very fast 100m Freestyle, finishing with a time of 52.66 to qualify the event for Provincials!

Pippa had an incredible meet! Starting with big drops in finals the first night, continuing with a huge burst in breakout speed to vastly improve her 50m Butterfly and 100m Breaststroke on the second night! She finished by breaking three minutes in the 200m Breaststroke to add at least one Provincial event each day!

Nic lowered made big improvements in his longer freestyle events and showed a lot of speed in his sprints! His lead off 50m Backstroke in the 4x50m Medley Relay qualified him for Provincials in the event!

Bayden had a great 200m Individual Medley final to break 2:20 for the first time and had fast speed in all of his breaststroke events setting new best times! It all came together with a great finish in his 200m Breaststroke to break 2:30 and qualify for Provincials!

Nikki just qualified for the meet and did a tremendous job of stepping up two weeks later, often a very hard skill. She lowered her breaststroke times with aggressive finished to each length and was bests in her freestyle events with fast starts as well!

Everyone stepped up at the meet, more highlights...
Cameron was very strong in his 100m Freestyles, using his strokerate! Joelie held her speed very well lowering all but one of her best times! Stella broke 1:20 for the first time in the 100m Breaststroke! Timothy had great speed to start his races with fast breakouts from his dives and turns! Tom also had very good speed early in his races, narrowly missing finals in the deep 15-16 boys age group! Yunhan did a fantastic job on his relays, helping the team reach the medal podium! Dottie is making changes in practice to her breakouts and that started to show in her races, her 100m Breaststroke was a big best time! Maddie went after her races very well with a great 50m Backstroke to lead off her relay! Kinsey showed her consistent breakout speed in her breaststroke events getting right to her best times, leading to a drop in her 200m Breaststroke and a very impressive 200m Individual Medley final! Audrey swam a lot of breaststroke giving her lots of opportunity to work on her breakouts which led to multiple best times!

This was a great meet for us and a good sign as we head into Provincials. Our swimmers have come off of a hard block of training through January/early February and the work showed at the meet! The biggest step is now taking those results and focusing back in practice to keep building on the momentum this season!

Outstsanding Events / Swim Academy Time Trial - February 2026

We hosted three time trials on Thursday during our regular practice times that led to a lot of amazing swims! Very proud of our swimmers at all levels for their ability to step up and put in a big effort in our own pool!

Swim Academy swimmers raced for the first time since November with great results! All swimmers in Swim Academy 2 swam the 100m Individual Medley, 50m Backstroke and 50m Breaststroke as they train towards racing the 200m Individual Medley. A big congratulations to Brandon, Chad, Emma, Thomson and Bradley who all raced their first 100m Individual Medley! Swim Academy 1 swimmers swam the two 50m events with a lot of enthusiasm! The swimmers showed a lot of improvement as they will now focus on racing at our Development Meet on Sunday, March 1!

Typhoon and Monsoon swimmers raced really well with a jam packed 80 minutes of events with swimmers getting off the blocks 3-5 times! Lots of big accomplishments with Nikki qualifying for Divisionals in the 50m Breaststroke while Maelie, Freya and Dottie all added more events! Freya, Mika, Mimu and Chelsea all raced the 200m Butterfly for the first time! Joelie, Hadley, Mila and Keon completed their first 200m Backstroke! Huge time improvements for Cameron (800free), Maelie (100fly), Tom (200im), Emma (400im), Sarah (200back), Chelsea (400free), Yunhan (200im), Roniya (200free + 50brst), Holly (200fly), Pippa (100brst), Liam (200free) and Mila (100free)!

Our Pursuit time trial included a lot of big efforts across multiple events for most of our swimmers. New Divisional standards by Lauryn, Oliver and Burton while everyone geared up for big performances at upcoming Divisionals and Provincial swim meets! Results were very good as we are still putting in a lot of work each day in practice.

A big thank you to all of our volunteers that helped pull off the three events!

Mies Schootman Meet - January 2026

   More Photos...

Our team had a strong start to the new year with impressive results at the Mies Schootman Invitational at VAC! The meet is early in our schedule so the focus is more on the process than the results. Our team really stepped up racing very well, especially after many swimmers were just coming off of a longer holiday break.

For our swimmers in Typhoon and Pursuit this meet was used to swim some different events and work on race strategies. We had great results with most swimmers racing to a majority of best times and many setting new time standards! The biggest moment from this meet is the return to training afterwards as swimmers need to look at their results, see what they need to commit to improving as we head into an important training block leading into SwimBC Divisionals and Provincial Championships. Swimmers in Monsoon used this meet as an opportunity for racing outside the familiar walls of the Hollyburn pool and gaining valuable experience racing kids from many other teams.

A great story at the meet was Kinsey racing her 50m Freestyle. This event is not her main focus but she has been really working towards breaking 30 seconds for the first time. Kinsey was ready to go with a proper pre-race warm-up and activation before getting on the blocks. Went out one of her fastest 25m splits and then had a great turn breakout to finish with a time of 29.96!

A less great story was the number of swimmers who still can not stay off of social media or games on their phones during swim meets. $10 phone charges to the following: Burton, Weiss, Timothy, Nicolas, Bayden (x2), Yunhan, Emma, Mimu and Flora. Please get your children to pay you back as your accounts will be charged. This is not the best use of the coaches time at competitions. There is a very real correlation between being a part of the meet/team and swimming fast.

Nanaimo Ugly Sweater Meet - December 2025

   More Photos...

Our fall racing plan ended with amazing results with the completion of our last meet the Nanaimo Ugly Sweater Meet! We focused on training with multiple one session competitions through October and November before attending two big heats and finals meets to finish the training cycle in Pointe Claire and Nanaimo this past weekend. The swimmers have done a fantastic job of racing at a high level throughout the training cycle which set them up for a huge amount of success in Pointe Claire and Nanaimo.

The Nanaimo Ugly Sweater Meet has always been a great team meet for us with the meet available to all swimmers in Monsoon, Typhoon and Pursuit. This year we had 26 swimmers attend the meet from all groups. It is such a great learning experience for our Monsoon swimmers to race a heats and finals meet in a different pool. They gain so much from seeing our more experienced swimmers step up and race well in heats before putting it all together in finals! It is a very big skill to learn how to race through a multi-session meet. Everyone gets worn down but a solid base of training gives swimmers the ability to step up and race fast under challenging conditions. We can’t say enough about the incredible results we had throughout the swim meet from swimmers from all groups on our team!

We had three swimmers race to their first Provincial time standards for this season! Congratulations to Freya, Oliver and Stella who all achieved their first standard! We also had Lauryn, Pippa, Burton, Audrey, Freya and Weiss add to their event total at the upcoming Provincials with new time standards! Lauryn had a fast breakout to race to a new provincial event in the 50m Butterfly! Freya had incredible energy throughout her 100m Breaststroke to race to her first Provincial time and then followed it up by breaking 40 to add a second event in the 50m Breaststroke! Oliver raced to his first time in the 200m Breaststroke with great pacing in his final! Stella accelerated to her 50m Breaststroke time with incredible breakouts! Pippa added her fourth event with a huge effort in the 200m Butterfly! Audrey had an incredible finish in her 200m Freestyle to add another event! Burton only has two events left without provincial standards now that he raced under the 50m Backstroke time! Weiss raced well under his 400m Individual Medley time with a fast freestyle finish!

We also had Mika racing to her first 13-14 year old Divisional time standard in the 200m Breaststroke with a huge improvement in finals! With Freya adding 100m Freestyle and 200m Freestyle to her divisional events and Timothy adding the 400m Freestyle!

Pursuit swimmers really swam well after racing at Pointe Claire the weekend before. Lauryn put together an amazing 100m Freestyle final! Mika had some great swims making adjustments from Pointe Claire and improving her results! Stella was showing her speed all weekend across all of her events! Timothy controlled his speed well in his longer races and took advantage of his breakout speed in his sprints! Tom used his strong breakouts speed in all of his races, leading to a very fast 50m Breaststroke! Emma continued to race at a high level, pushing her speed for best times in her 200m Freestyle! Oliver had a great meet, bringing down his times across all the events! Burton continued to race at a high level with big bests in his 50m Breaststroke and 50m Backstroke! Dottie worked on her easy speed, leading to much better racing and best times in her butterfly events! Maddie keeps improving as she returns to racing post injury! Kinsey held her speed very well in all of her events and raced to a big best in the 100m Butterfly! Audrey was incredible, racing so well in finals to lead to a lot of best times after a heavy event schedule the past two weeks! Weiss keeps stepping up and holding his speed very well in races, including a very strong final day with great times in his 400m Freestyle, 100m Butterfly and 50m Freestyle after a lot of racing!

Typhoon made some huge improvements as they adapt to their training and raced very well throughout the weekend. A few swimmers did the Pointe Claire/Nanaimo double while others were focusing on results at this meet. Freya was amazing in the 11-12 age group, racing to finals and all best times with a very full event schedule! Mimu showed a lot of speed in her 50m Butterfly and 50m Breaststroke with big best times! Ian raced at his first travel meet and did an outstanding job, racing to best times and reaching second swims across all events! Chelsea was incredible on her breakouts, using that speed to race to all best times! Pippa really improved her breathing pattern for her 200m Butterfly, leading to a fantastic swim, she also had a speedy 50m Backstroke! Nic raced his last meet as a 12&under, racing to first in almost all of his events and reaching a few impressive best times! Bianca’s hard work and focus in practice led improved racing with her ability to maintain her speed to race well under her best times! Nikki sprinting speed was strong, especially in her freestyle events, holding her stroke rate throughout her swims for new bests!

Monsoon swimmers had a big opportunity to learn from the competition. Sarah raced really well in her 100m events to make big time drops including breaking two minutes in the 100m Breaststroke! Much better turns for Sarah at this competition! Flora had big drops in her breaststroke events with fast racing to start off the walls, including under 50 seconds for the first time in her 50m Breaststroke! She also went under 40 for the 50m Freestyle! Keon used his legs to get under two minutes in the 100m Breaststroke and had really improved dives throughout the meet!

Our swimmers gain a ton of experience and motivation at these swim meets. It is such a great opportunity to learn from their races so that they can take it back to training to improve for their next round of competitions. It is very hard to make long term changes at a meet but that work will start when we are at practice again so that improved skills become habits and we can keep building towards future performances.

In some bad news, we did have a little too much phone use throughout the weekend. A few phone charges to expect on your accounts. Burton, Weiss, Nic, Timothy and Tom at our team dinner. Flora, Nic and Bianca during the swim meet. Mimu and Flora at team dinner. Mimu, Flora and Chelsea in the lobby during the swim meet. And Ian with Keon during the swim meet. Our goal is to have swimmers focused on their performance, supporting their teammates and learning from the swim meet while we are at competitions. Bonding with the team while we are doing team events. Please have your swimmer pay you back $10 for each charge as it will be billed to your account under equipment.

Pointe-Claire Invitational - December 2025

  More Photos...

The Pointe-Claire Invitational has been an incredible meet for our team in the past, this year might have the most outstanding results we have ever had! The meet is a huge competition with heats and finals at both ends of the pool. It is an outstanding experience for everyone who takes part, giving them valuable racing experience that will help them perform at the rest of our big competitions this season. The meet was our first multi-session competition this season and our swimmers stepped up in every session racing to best times even when worn down. They learnt confidence from the challenges of racing in this environment, improving from preliminaries to finals and keeping it going throughout the meet.

Lauryn was tremendous at the meet, racing to all best times and putting together her goal swims in her backstroke events! She raced in finals in every event and raced to the medal podium with a gold medal finish in the 100m Backstroke and bronze in the 200m Backstroke! Her times of 1:04.58 in the 100m Backstroke and 2:22.88 in the 200m Backstroke will put her in competition with the best 14&under backstroke swimmers in the country! She also raced to new provincial time standards in the 200m Freestyle, 50m Freestyle and 200m Individual Medley!

Joelie attended her first travel meet and was our youngest swimmer at the meet. She did a fantastic job, improving her best times and moving up the rankings in her events! Joelie was competing in a deep 12&under age group where she raced to finals in both the 100m Breaststroke and 200m Breaststroke! She also had an incredible split on our 4x50m Freestyle relay of 32.9 to finish the meet!

Maelie also attended her first travel meet and did a fantastic job improving her times. Maelie got after her races right off blocks with strong underwaters on her dives and every turn. Maelie raced to a top ten finish in the 100m Breaststroke and also competed in finals in the 200m Breaststroke!

Mika qualified for the meet at the last chance and gained valuable experience racing in a big field of 13-14 year old swimmers! She just aged up to the 13-14 year old age group before the meet and performed really well in her new age group! Mika raced to second swim in the 200m Breaststroke while setting big best times in her 200m events and the 100m Backstroke! Mika also had an amazing split on our 4x50m Freestyle relay to finish the meet!

Timothy had a huge moment getting called to the blocks as an alternate in the 100m Freestyle! He took advantage, taking the race out a second faster than in prelims and broke 55 seconds for the first time! Timothy had a great 50m Freestyle final racing to 25.00 and showed up on relays with big best times!

Tom raced to medals in four of his events with a gold in the 100m Breaststroke, silver in the 200m Freestyle and bronze medals in the 50m and 100m Freestyle events! Tom used his strong breakouts to push to new best times in his 50m and 100m events!

Emma took a big step forward at the meet, with big time drops racing to finals in all of her freestyle races! She made these improvements with strong breakouts and working her stroke rate into all of her walls. Emma narrowly missed her provincial times in the 50m Freestyle, 100m Freestyle and 200m Freestyle, putting herself in a great position to qualify in the next three months!

Burton’s time of 1:03.23 in the 100m Breaststroke was over two seconds faster than his previous best, put him on the podium and qualified him with his second event for the Canadian Open meet! Burton has been working on his 200m Breaststroke for the past few years and his work in practice finally showed at a meet with a huge improvement to 2:22.83! He also raced the 50m Freestyle numerous times between his event, relays and the 50m Freestyle eliminator, racing to multiple best times and breaking our team record with a 23.86!

Nicolas took advantage of one of his last meets as a 12 year old, finishing with five podium finishes and a valuable lesson. Nic touched first overall in the 50m Freestyle, 100m Freestyle and 100m Backstroke, improving his team records in all three events! Nic also raced to a silver in the 200m Backstroke and a bronze in the 200m Freestyle! Nic qualified his second event with the 100m Backstroke for his upcoming provincials in the 13-14 year old age group!

Dottie had a very impressive swim off win in her 200m Backstroke, pushing her stroke rate through the race to pull away and qualify for the A final in the event! Dottie showed a lot of resilience after finishing outside second swims on the first day to step up and race in finals in all of her other events!

Maddie raced really well on her relays, finishing with a big best time with her 50m Freestyle split and hitting her best in the 50m Backstroke! Great racing after working through an injury the past few weeks!

Kinsey raced to a new 50m Freestyle best time, great relay swims and showed a lot of early speed in her races throughout the meet! She was just over her best times after missing a lot of training due to sickness in November, still improving and getting back on track!

Bayden raced to an important best time in the 200m Breaststroke with an incredible swim in prelims where he took the race out fast right from the start! Bayden also broke the 5 minute mark in the 400m Individual Medley for the first time in heats and again in finals! Bayden also improved his 200m Individual Medley time!

Audrey was amazing through the meet, with big accomplishments each session! New provincial times in the 200m Individual Medley, 200m Backstroke and 50m Freestyle! She broke 4:40 in the 400m Freestyle, 2:30 in the 200m Backstroke and raced to a big best time in her 200m Butterfly! She raced in finals in all of her events, making great adjustments to improve at night!

Weiss continues to reach new standards at each competition! He raced to his first national time with his 100m Backstroke race of 57.59 qualifying for Canadian Open! Weiss was busy throughout the meet, racing in finals in all of his events and setting new best times each final including a very impressive double of 200m Butterfly before 200m Individual Medley on Sunday night!

Our relays are always a highlight, with swimmers showing what they are capable of at the end of each session while racing for their teammates! Our boys 15&over relay was in the hunt for medals against some very big teams, finishing 4th and 5th overall!

Our team was very close throughout the meet, supporting each other with great team spirit! We had fun at team meals and did a little late night site-seeing in Old Montreal after the meet on Sunday! A very fun experience for all swimmers who attended!

Comox/Squamish/Pirates/Hollyburn Quad Meet - November 2025

  More Photos...

This was the first year that we put together a new meet format with the help of the teams from Comox, Nanaimo and Squamish. The meet took place in two parts, with swimmers competing in Comox on November 15 and at our pool on November 29. We scored the meet between the four teams and gave out a ton of prizes to top aggregate winners in each age group. Looking to maximize our racing opportunities in the early season without draining the swimmers with multi-session meets so that we could keep the focus on training. The plan worked great with fast results at both pools and the swimmers set up well for success at our big meets in December!

Lydia achieved best times in her 100m Individual Medley and 50m Freestyle events, just missing breaking the 40-second barrier in the 50m Freestyle! She has done a great job working on her speed, and it showed very well in her two sprint events! Great swimming Lydia! Hadley swam to best times in her 200m Individual Medley and 50m Freestyle, achieving her LMR qualifying time in the 200m Individual Medley after narrowly missing it at the Comox Quad Meet 2 weeks ago! Surrey LC Meet - November 2025

Hollyburn was well represented by 11 swimmers at the Surrey Long Course Meet! It was the first chance to race long course for our team which is usually a touch challenge in November. Our team had a fantastic meet though, racing to well over 50% best times with a lot of big personal accomplishments! Good splitting overall in our 200m events with added stroke rate to finish their mid distance races! Great experience for our team and the meet will really help set up fast racing in December!

A few highlights: Lauryn set two new team records in the 100m Backstroke and 200m Backstroke, racing all of her events very well focusing on strokerate and big efforts in the 3rd 50s! Emma raced to all best times, being aggressive early in her sprints and holding her speed well in her 400m Freestyle! Oliver set a 12&under 100m Breaststroke record the day before he turned 13 and had big improvements in all of his events! Burton showed a big effort coming home in his 100m Freestyle for a best time! Bayden had a great meet, bests in his 100m events and just missed his 200m Breaststroke best time, fantastic for this early in the season! Weiss broke a minute for the first time in his 100m Backstroke and took off time in all three of his events!

Monsoon Meet - November 2025

Our team ran a fantastic meet yesterday for swimmers in Swim Academy 2, Monsoon and Typhoon! There was great swimming from all the groups as swimmers continued to race in preparation for our main meets in December! Very happy to see everyone sitting together, warming down between swims and getting to the blocks on time for all of their races!

The meet was entirely officiated by our parents and older swimmers! Rob put on officiating clinics in the afternoon for our Pursuit and Typhoon swimmers who then helped out at the meet. A big thank you to our parents who continue to show up at all of our team events! Another big thank you to our older swimmers who took the time to learn and help out!

We had a couple of big breakthroughs in the 200m Individual Medley with both Amelia and Keon racing under four minutes to qualify for LMR (Lower Mainland Region) Meets! Both swimmers were close in the past, Amelia took off in the butterfly and backstroke to swim well under the standard, while Keon used a huge effort in his freestyle leg to just out touch the clock to qualify! We also had Lydia, Hadley and Liam all race to best times in their 200m Individual Medleys to start the meet!

A few big first time swims. Will had a great meet, getting off the blocks in three new events, highlighted by breaking three minutes in the 200m Freestyle! Joelie raced the 200m Breaststroke for the first time, finishing under the SwimBC Divisional time! Sarah swam her first 100m Butterfly, keeping her rhythm through the whole second half! Yunhan raced his first 200m Backstroke with a strong time well under three minutes! Morgan completed her first 100m Individual Medley, her first IM race! Flora swam a very strong 100m Breaststroke! Mila pushed through her first 200m Breaststroke! Liam Z raced his three events all for the first time! These first swims are always important as we want swimmers to be confident racing all distances and strokes. Even as swimmers get older, being well rounded and experiencing successes in different races is a great way to stay motivated!

More highlights for our team. Cameron took off a ton of time in both the 200m Backstroke and 200m Breaststroke! Joelie really lowered her 200m Freestyle time! Maelie had incredible dives and sprinted to a new SwimBC Divisional time in her 50m Butterfly! Brandon swam a strong 100m Freestyle to a big best time! Mika made a great improvement in the 200m Breaststroke while sprinting to a super fast 50m Freestyle leading off the relay! Maeve dropped a ton of time in both her 50m events! Mimu was a big best in her 100m Backstroke thanks to a very aggressive first 50m! Ethan had an impressive swim meet with all best times, including big drops in his 100m Individual Medley and 100m Freestyle! Chelsea looked great to start and finish her 200m Freestyle for a big best! Lydia dropped time in her 100m Freestyle! Kora had an incredible meet taking off a ton of time in both her 100m Backstroke and 100m Freestyle! Lexie really went after her butterfly and backstroke for a fast 100m Individual Medley! The 400m Individual Medley was a tough go after the previous two swims but we were very proud of the efforts put in by our swimmers who completed all three events! New Provincial time standards for Audrey and Weiss, while Lauryn, Freya and Oliver raced to new Divisional times! Audrey also broke an eight-year-old team record in the 1500m Freestyle! Hollyburn Time Trial - October 2025

It was great to see our team get off the blocks on Saturday morning! A lot of huge time drops for our younger swimmers as well as a ton of impressive swims for our older swimmers! Early season competitions are valuable for the swimmers to see where their racing is at. See what habits they are trying to build in practice are being maintained when it matters and see what they need to continue to focus on to make improvements. We are doing a lot of one session time trials and meets over the next few weeks to keep our focus on training while we prepare for big meets in December!

The Pursuit group raced really well, early season races don't need to be best times to be valuable in preparing for more high performance meets. We did have a lot of great swims and definitely need to congratulate Lauryn, Tom, Emma, Dottie and Bayden who all raced to impressive best times in the meet! We also had really fast swimming from Mika, Oliver and Audrey who went all best times and showed a ton of potential for this season! Weiss swam his races really well, very close to best times and gave us a chance to see what needs to be fine tuned with his races in practice going forward. Exactly what we are looking for at these early time trials!

The Typhoon group showed that they have done a lot of work early in the season as well! Freya, Mimu, Chelsea and Nic had big drops already as they transfer their training to racing! Bianca did an incredible job, she has been a great leader in practice this year and has stepped up in training. It led to drops in all of her events and she has been much more consistent this season with her training habits!

We had our first cell phone charge of the year, congratulations Nic! Swimmers who are using their phones for games or social media at swim team events (practice, meets, dinners, etc) are billed $10 every time they are caught. Parents will be notified in our meet reviews to make sure that the swimmers are paying them back for the charges to their account. This is Burton's longest streak of not being charged since he joined the team!

A big thanks to all the parents who showed up to help run the meet!

Whistler Fall PASS Meet - October 2025

   More Photos...

The Whistler PASS Meet was our first meet of the year with 9 swimmers from Monsoon, Swim Academy 2, and Swim Academy 1 competing! Our team did a great job tackling their first competition of the year and got some early season experience with racing and relays! 2 swimmers competed in their first ever competition: congratulations to Leonor R and Sydney H!

Leonor and Sydney were our Swim Academy 1 representatives and did a great job starting our meet off. They raced in the same heat of the 25m Freestyle, followed by the same heat of the 50m Freestyle and 25m Backstroke. They did a great job supporting each other with good sportsmanship and showed great racing spirit! Great job on your first ever races and swim meet Leonor and Sydney!

Brandon, Irene, Emma, and Ivy were our Swim Academy 2 swimmers at the meet and did a great job getting off the blocks confidently into their races. Brandon did a great job showing off his speed in his 50m Freestyle, 100m Freestyle, and 50m Backstroke, achieving best times in all his races! Irene had strong performances, showing a strong back half speed in all her swims! Emma showed how fun racing can be with a great attitude in all three of her races, helping her to a best time in her 50m Freestyle! Ivy did an excellent job in her swims, racing to break 1-minute in her 50m Breaststroke for the first time ever! Good work Swim Academy 2 swimmers!

Sarah, Flora, and Mila represented our Monsoon group this weekend. We have been working intensely on head position and strong kicking so far this year in Monsoon and the swimmers showed how that work is paying off across all their swims. Sarah did an excellent job in her 50m Butterfly as the sole swimmer in her heat! She had a great finish to her race and was strong throughout the swim! Flora did a great job in her 100m Freestyle, showing how useful her strong kick can be with a sprint finish to touch out a competitor from across the pool! Mila did a terrific job in her 50m Freestyle, achieving first place in the girls 10&Under category and displaying her good flip turning skills! Great job to all of our Monsoon swimmers.

Quebec Grand Prix - July 2025

   More Photos...

The Quebec Grand Prix was a great end to the season as we had five Hurricanes competing at the meet (one as a Bangor Swim Club member). The meet brought back memories of the Canadian Age Group National Meets in the past where the whole country would race to finish each season. The Parc Jean Drapeau pool is an amazing facility with two 10 lane, 50m tanks that hosted the World Championships in 2005. Our swimmers did a great job stepping up coming off of a successful provincials with fast swims throughout the weekend!

Lauryn was incredible throughout the weekend after focusing on kick while she recovered from a shoulder injury the past few weeks! She raced to second swims in all of her events, with her best race coming on the last day with a Bronze Medal in the 100m Backstroke! Her 100m Backstroke time is a new club record and qualifies her for the Grand Prix next season! Lauryn also raced to best times in the 50m and 100m Freestyle events!

Henry finished the season with great racing, he made finals in all three of his Butterfly events, improving his time in every final and just missing a medal by .04 in the 100m Butterfly! Henry set new best times with great prelim swims winning his heats in the 50m, 100m and 200m Freestyle events!

Burton was racing in a very tough 16-17 age group and raced to some great results! His biggest highlight was breaking 30 seconds in the 50m Breaststroke for the first time! Lowering his team record and just missing a medal by .05!

Nicolas was also racing at the bottom of his age group and also had a great meet! He qualified for finals in three events and finished just outside the medals in both his 50m Backstroke and 100m Backstroke! He had a great 50m Butterfly taking off a couple seconds from his best time! Very good racing especially considering his full schedule at Provincials the previous weekend!

Our team was reunited with Olivia who's family moved to Ireland last year and is now racing for the Bangor Swimming Club! `Olivia had a great meet, racing all six events in finals and reaching the podium in the 100m Butterfly with a Bronze Medal finish after she raced a great 400m Freestyle earlier in the session! It was very fun to have her back with the team and we hope it can happen again in the future!

One more meet left for our team this season, with Burton heading to Canada Games in St John's, Newfoundland in August! A great season and we wish Burton all of the best!

Holly had some exceptional performances, with best times in her 50m Freestyle, 100m Butterfly, and 50m Butterfly! Holly broke the 40m second barrier in the 50m Freestyle for the first time (by 0.01!) and dropped a dazzling 12 seconds in her 100m Butterfly on her way to a Gold Medal!

Lexie had excellent swims in all of her events! She had strong swims in prelims and finals, and used her excellent underwaters and technical proficiency to help secure a Gold Medal in the 50m Backstroke!

SwimBC Provincial Championships - July 2025

We had a great team effort at SwimBC Summer Provincial Championships racing to 14th place overall out of 40 teams competing at the meet! This was one of our highest ever finishes (finished 11th and 12th in 2023) and a great accomplishment for a team of our size!

Brooke had a fantastic meet, that she set up with her dedication and effort throughout the season! She set new team records in all three Butterfly events and confidently made finals in all three! She finished 5th overall against a tough 17&over field in both the 200m and 100m Butterfly events! Brooke's time in the 100m Butterfly has her qualified for Usport Championships next year as she will join the Western varsity team in September!

Nic made the most of his last Provincials in the 11-12 age group racing to four individual medals in seven finals! Nic really improved his walls to finish with Silver medals in the 100m Backstroke, 100m Freestyle and 50m Backstroke! He also finished with a Bronze in the 200m Freestyle and just missed a medal while setting a club record in the 50m Freestyle!

Burton lowered his best times in the 100m Butterfly and 50m Freestyle while racing in four finals! It was the first time racing for Burton after injuring his knee, a strong step forward as he still has the Quebec Grand Prix and then Canada Games to finish this season!

Henry has a big performance in the 100m Butterfly racing to a Silver medal! He also has a strong final with a lot of easy speed early in the 200m Butterfly and stepped up on our relays!

Pippa raced at her first Provincials, she was out very strong in the 100m Butterfly and held her speed very well in the 200m Backstroke! She stepped up on our relays and gained valuable experience for Provincials next year!

Tom was also racing at his first Provincials, he did a great job improving his results as he raced through the meet! He made the finals in the 50m Breaststroke on Sunday, a big accomplishment for a first time qualifier!

Valentina showed her experience at the meet, racing to a new best time in the 50m Butterfly and finishing with a Bronze medal in the 50m Breaststroke!

We had more than a little bad injury luck heading into Provincials this year. Very impressive racing despite the circumstances by our swimmers who were negatively impacted with injuries leading into the meet. Kinsey raced really well through the entire meet after just returning to racing a few swims at Divisionals! Emma got better each race with a lot of pulling speed in all of her relays and individual events! Lauryn set up her racing at the Quebec Grand Prix next week with very strong kick dominated backstroke races!

A big thanks to our varsity friends - Thea, Rohin and Raf who all raced so well on our 18&over relays adding points and racing opportunities for our team! The girls 4x50m Medley Relay - Thea, Valentina, Brooke and Emma - raced to a Bronze Medal in the 4x50m Medley Relay and finished the meet with a Silver Medal in the 4x50m Freestyle Relay!

SwimBC Summer Divisionals - June 2025

   More Photos.....

We hosted an incredible Summer Divisionals! A big thank you to all of the volunteers who helped make the meet a tremendous success! All of the attending clubs were impressed by how well we run a meet and there was a ton of fast swimming!

Our swimmers were outstanding as well, we started the meet strong Friday, stepped up in finals everyday, had an incredible day on Saturday and had some of our best performances Sunday! Here are a few highlights and great stats (19 medals, 8 team records, 17 new time standards) from the meet!

Freya broke through lowering five 10&under team records - all three Breaststroke distances and both Individual Medley races! Very impressive with the 200m Breaststroke record set 14 years ago by Hannah Philpotts who had great results as an age group swimmer! She is in a great place as a 10 year old racing in the 12&under age group almost making finals in her events!
Tom had an incredible meet, racing really well in finals by being aggressive then counting on his training to help him finish his races! He added four more Provincial events, including breaking a minute in the 100m Freestyle for the first time!
Brooke had a big break through in her 100m Butterfly, taking a second off her best time with a great middle 50m to set a new club record! She also had big improvements in her 200m Freestyle, 400m Individual Medley, 200m Individual Medley and 50m Butterfly! A great meet as she finishes up her age group racing!
Pippa had a strong meet and then took off in her 100m Butterfly final to race to a big best time and add her second Provincial event! She was so impressive into the first turn, starting her second length and then splitting the race perfectly to set up her fantastic time!
Cameron swam really well at his first Divisionals in the 13-14 age group, after just qualifying in early June he added three more Divisional times and made multiple finals including a Bronze medal in the 400m Freestyle!
Henry had a very good meet with big improvements in his 400m Freestyle and 200m Freestyle with great splitting in both events! He also had a lot of early speed in his Breaststroke and Backstroke sprints!
Maelie had an outstanding 200m Breaststroke, racing in the first heat she took off right out of the blocks and pushed herself throughout the race to drop over 20 seconds off her previous best and raced under the Divisional time! She showed a lot of speed racing to all best times!
Calais raced to a big improvement in her 200m Individual Medley with strong breakouts to start every length across all four strokes! She also put together a very fast 50m Freestyle!
Mimu was very strong in her Breaststroke events and really stepped up on our relays!
Valentina had a great meet, racing to new best times in multiple events and breaking a minute in the 100m Freestyle for the first time! She added the 50m Backstroke and 100m Freestyle to her Provincial lineup!
Yunhan was racing at his first Divisionals and made big improvements in every stroke! He really went after his freestyle sprints, racing to finals in the 100m and 50m Freestyle and finished with a Bronze in the 50m Freestyle!
Nicolas showed some versatility as he raced his off events at the meet, he won the 50m Breaststroke adding the event to his long list of Provincial times! He also received a Gold medal in the 1500m Freestyle where he bettered his time by over 30 seconds! He also learnt about the importance of two hand touches in Butterfly.
Dottie was consistently good throughout the meet while having big best times in the 400m Individual Medley and 100m Breaststroke, she is starting to put the training breakouts into her racing and it is really paying off!
Maddie was great on our relays! She raced under 1:10 for the first time in 100m Freestyle and had a strong best in her 50m Freestyle!
Kinsey made improvements throughout the weekend with her first time racing since her injury mid-May! Especially strong first half of her 200m Butterfly in finals!
Bayden was really on his speed at the meet, racing to impressive best times in his 50m Breaststroke and 100m Breaststroke! He was also very strong with bests in both the 200m and 400m Individual Medley events!
Nikki showed a lot of speed in her 50m Butterfly, racing under 40 seconds for the first time! She was very good on her pushoffs and streamlines throughout the meet, one of our biggest focuses!
Mia stepped up on the relays with her first 100m Freestyle under 1:10 and a big best in her 50m Freestyle split!
Our relays were a strong point as usual, so many big efforts and best times with swimmers showing how much they care about the team and their teammates! The highlight was the boys 13-14 4x50m Freestyle Relay racing to a Bronze medal, congrats Nicolas, Tom, Yunhan and Cameron!

Hollyburn Spring Meet - June 2025

We hosted a small meet with two other clubs Saturday, very good swimming as we added a few more Divisional events and worked on racing skills heading into summer championship meets!

A few highlights:
Nic raced to his first 11-12 boys team record in the 50m Freestyle, taking one of George Kingdon's team records who did own the record in every short course event! Cameron raced to his 50m Butterfly divisional time and had a huge improvement in his 100m Backstroke! Tom added both the 50m Backstroke and 100m Backstroke to his Divisional lineup as he continues to improve almost every time he gets off the blocks! Joelie looked great with big best times in her backstroke events! Freya just missed the team record with another improvement in the 200m Freestyle! Ian brought down his breaststroke times and set his best 50m Freestyle! Brooke had a great 50m Butterfly racing to a big best time before her big summer meets are here! Emma broke 3:20 in the 200m Breaststroke and went out fast to drop a lot of time in her 100m Butterfly! Sarah swam a great 200m Backstroke in her first time racing the event! Valentina loved sprinting backstroke racing to best times and then dropped to a big best in the 50m Butterfly! Chelsea sprinted very well, closing in on her Divisional times! Maelie raced to a best in her 100m Bacsktroke! Calais was right on her bests in the 50m and 100m Freestyles with a strong stroke! Mimu raced to a best in her 50m Freestyle! Lydia had a very strong 100m Freestyle and 50m Butterfly! Thea swam a lot of events! Holly held her speed very well through her 200m Freestyle for a big best! Pippa had a fast 50m Butterfly! Lexie also took off in her 50m Butterfly with a very fast second length! Dottie lowered her 400m Freestyle time, just missing the Divisional standard with a big finish! Maddie focused on walls and it paid off in her backstroke events! Bianca had a lot of sprinting speed, racing into walls very well! Bayden had a fantastic 50m Breaststroke and 100m Breaststroke, going out fast for big bests in both events! Keon had a very strong 100m Backstroke! Nikki took off a ton of time in her 400m Individual Medley and continued swimming well through all of her events with best times! Olivia had a very strong 50m Freestyle! Mia continues to lower her time in the 50m Freestyle racing quickly out of the dive!

And we had our return of phone charges! Congratulations to Burton, Bayden, Nic and Tom who all had to be playing games or on social media during the short meet!

Canadian Trials - June 2025

Congratulations to Burton and Jessica who represented the Hurricanes at this year's Canadian Trials in Victoria! They raced against the fastest swimmers in the country as swimmers competed for spots on the Canadian National Team. The meet was highlighted by multiple World Records set by Summer McIntosh!

Burton had a very good 50m Breaststroke to finish the meet, he improved his team record to 30.04 and was placed very well for his age! Burton also set a best time in the 100m Butterfly Time Trial!

Jessica also finished the meet with a solid 50m Breaststroke, qualifying her for finals! Jessica was out of the blocks fast with a strong pullout and great breakout!

Both swimmers had races that could have been better as well. It is a big skill to step up in these high performance meets to race your best in preliminaries. A great learning experience and something to build on in the future!

Hollyburn June 5 Time Trial- June 2025

We ran a small time trial in practice June 5 and it produced amazing results! Was a good test for swimmers to see where they are at before we compete June 14 and then prepare for summer meets starting with Divisionals at our own pool June 27-29!

Congratulations to Calais and Cameron who have both been close to qualifying for Divisionals in the 13-14 age group and stepped up to get their times! Calais qualified in the 50m Butterfly and Cameron made the standards in both the 50m Freestyle and 100m Freestyle! Yunhan just qualified for Divisionals at the Whistler Meet and now added his 4th and 5th events in the 100m Freestyle and 50m Backstroke!

Our 200m Backstrokes were incredible! Pippa broke through with a great swim to go way under her first Provincial time! Both Lauryn and Nic went out really fast as well to go way under 2:30 for the first time! Pippa and Lauryn both set new team records in their age groups and Lauryn qualified the event for the Quebec Grand Prix at the end of July!

Tom had a great 100m Breaststroke with a lot of speed and then holding on the second half to add a second event for Provincials! A few other highlights: Ellie had a very strong 200m Backstroke! Scarlett and Lexie both had big improvements in their 100m Breaststrokes! Bianca raced the 200m Freestyle for the first time in a long time and showed her work in training with a huge best time! Nikki took off a ton of time in her 200m Butterfly! Jessie raced a fast 50m Freestyle before watching her old 200m Backstroke records go down, she still has plenty more though!

Overall the team really stepped up racing to best times or very close, a great sign for our racing the rest of the month! It was also so good to see swimmers go out fast in their 100m and 200m races! It's a good strategy to go fast and set a strong pace early in your race! Trust your training.

Whistler Sea Wolves Invitational- May 2025

    More Photos...

We had a great team meet in Whistler again this year! This meet is a really fun event for our team with all of our groups racing throughout the weekend! We had a well attended team dinner, giving our families an incredible opportunity to hang out and enjoy time together away from the pool!

There was also a lot of great racing at the meet! Many of our young swimmers raced events for the first time! Lydia finished her first 400m Freestyle! Yunhan did his first 200m Breaststroke! Flora completed her first 200m Freestyle! Ryan also got to the wall in his first 200m Freestyle! Evan had a great 400m Freestyle! Mimu raced her first 400m Individual Medley! Ian raced his first 200m Breaststroke! Liam did a lot of events for the first time with great results!

We also had Brooklyn and Charlotte racing in a swim meet for the first time! They both did an amazing job of completing their first races!

We had Freya breaking through the team 10&under 200m Individual Medley record with a very fast time of 2:56.42! The time beat the old record by three seconds and also qualified her for the event at Divisionals! Freya is closing in on almost every 10&under record for our team with a few more meets to go before she ages up!

Yunhan had an outstanding meet, racing to his first divisional times and qualifying in three events - 50m Freestyle, 50m Breaststroke and 200m Breaststroke! Really strong swimming for Yunhan! We also had Emma qualify to swim the 100m Backstroke at Divisionals!

This is one of the only meets we go to with strict officiating for our Swim Academy swimmers, there were a lot of DQs, but also great learning experiences. We take the DQs out of our results for the Swim Academy races since these times are more important for their development. As they get older we will put more emphasis on doing all of the skills within the rulebook but at an early stage it is most important to be challenging themselves with implementing what we have been working on in practice into their races.

Mel Zajac Jr International Meet- May 2025

Our swimmers had a great meet at the Mel Zajac Jr International Meet! This is one of the top age group meets in the country each season and a good opportunity to race in a high performance environment. Many of the events had over 150 swimmers in this senior meet with no age groups, making it very hard to make the finals. The meet is always exciting as the swimmers get a chance to race with Canadian Olympic and National Team members!

Burton was very strong in his breaststroke events as he was focused on being selected for this summer's Canada Games. He had a fantastic 100m Breaststroke on the first day, just .1 off his best time in the preliminaries and bettering his best by .7 in the finals! Burton won the C final to finish 21st overall with a new team record of 1:06.74! Burton was again very solid in the preliminaries of his 50m Breaststroke qualifying for for the B final. In finals Burton had a tough dive but came back to just miss his best time by .1 and move up to 16th overall!

Brooke had a very strong meet, just over her best times in preliminaries in both the 50m Butterfly and 100m Butterfly! She also had a very good 50m Freestyle just .01 off her best! This all set up the last day where she had a fantastic 200m Butterfly, dropping three seconds off her best time and qualifying for C finals! In finals she went out more aggressively and held on to take off another two seconds from her best! Brooke moved up to 27th overall and just missed the team record in the event!

Lauryn was one of the youngest swimmers as she competed at her first Mel Zajac! Lauryn started the meet with a very strong 200m Backstroke, racing to a best time by improving her second 50m! Lauryn had a great 50m Backstroke as she made the most of her underwater dolphin kicks and breakout speed to improve her time by .6 seconds! Lauryn was only .6 off of a second swim finishing 44th overall after going in 102nd in the event! She is also closing in on team records in her first year in the 13-14 age group!

Lily was back racing for the first time since Divisionals and was great to have her with the team! Kinsey had bad timing with an injury and was not able to compete but still came out to support her teammates!

A very strong meet for the team. We just came back from a big meet in Calgary where swimmers had a much easier time getting to finals. They stepped up and were great in every finals session there. Now they were challenged at a new level where they needed their very best in preliminaries to even make it through to finals. This is what happens at the highest level meets and was a great learning experience for the team. We moved up in the rankings in most of our swims against tough competition and had a few big break throughs for a very successful meet!

Killarney Long Course Invitational - May 2025

    More Photos....

The Hurricanes traveled to Calgary with 14 swimmers to compete in the Killarney Long Course Invitational. It was a great meet for the team, very fun team travel and a lot of fast results!

The Friday afternoon session had timed final 200m and 400m events. Our team started off really strong and it was a great way to focus on a longer event through warm-ups. Freya had a great 200m Backstroke breaking three minutes her first time long course! We had strong first time long course swims by Calais in the 200m Backstroke as well as Nikki and Bianca in the 200m Breaststroke! Kinsey was really solid in her 200m Breaststroke with a powerful first 100m! Tom had a tremendous 200m Breaststroke qualifying for Divisionals! Burton broke five minutes long course in the 400m IM! Brooke lowered her best 400m Freestyle time! Emma came .4 away from breaking five minutes in the 400m Freestyle!

Saturday preliminaries was very good for us as swimmers kept up their strong long course racing. 100m Backstroke had best times by Dottie, Freya, Bianca, Nikki, Emma, Calais and Maddie! Tom dropped a ton of time in his 200m IM while Nikki and Mimu both swam it long course for the first time! A lot of speed in the 50m Fly for our team with Mimu, Lauryn, Emma, Calais, Stella, Kinsey and Maddie having great swims! Freya, Lauryn, Maddie and Tom were all very good in the 100m Freestyle! Dottie, Freya, Mimu, Nikki, Bianca, Kinsey and Burton finished the session with great 50m Breaststrokes while Tom was incredible, just missing his Provincial time in the heats! The session ended with Bianca in a 100m Backstroke swim off, she was so much better increasing her stroke rate in the 2nd and 4th 25s to improve her time by five seconds and win the swim off!

Saturday finals were very impressive, the team really stepped up, listened to their feedback from morning swims and made great adjustments to improve in finals! Dottie dropped three seconds to race to a bronze medal in the 100m Backstroke and Freya took off a big two seconds! Lauryn raced to a silver medal with great early speed in the 100m Backstroke! Emma and Maddie had big improvements in their 100m Backstrokes at night! In the 200m IM finals, Dottie had a great swim racing to the Bronze medal with much more aggressive butterfly and breaststroke legs! Also in the 200m IM, all of Nikki, Kinsey, Tom and Burton improved their morning swims with Tom racing to a Bronze medal and Burton a Silver! Emma had her best dive of the meet to take a second off of her 50m Butterfly preliminaries! Brooke was just over her best 50m Butterfly with a big improvement from heats to finals! Stella had a big drop by keeping her speed up, racing to win the B final in 50m Butterfly! Kinsey also improved her time! Freya, Brooke, Stella and Maddie all took advantage of their 100m Freestyle finals by taking off time! Tom raced to a bronze medal in his 100m Freestyle and was very fast despite some slow learning on managing his breathing! Dottie raced to a Silver medal and Mimu a Bronze medal in the 50m Breaststroke final! Stella again held her speed and just missed Provincials by .07 with a big improvement in the 50m Breaststroke!  Freya, Nikki and Kinsey all improved their 50m Breaststroke best times in finals! Tom had a great 50m Breaststroke in prelims and made another big leap to qualify for Provincials while winning a Silver medal in finals! Burton was very solid, racing just over his best time and winning the Gold medal in the 50m Breaststroke! Our 4x50m Medley Relays were a great end to the night with all three teams finishing 4th with a lot of good speed at the end of a busy session of racing!

Sunday preliminaries was a tougher session, energy was a little low for swimmers from all teams but we still had a lot of success racing into finals. Was very impressed with Freya who pushed through a 200m Freestyle even though she knew that she false started, ending up with what would have been a big best time and a racing experience that will really help her the next time she swims the event! Bianca had a great 200m Freestyle with a big best time! We found some speed in the 50m Freestyles with Mimu, Bianca, Stella and Tom all racing to new bests under their converted times! Mimu and Freya were both very strong in their 100m Breaststrokes for best times in heats!

Sunday finals was the best session we have had in a very long time! The meet started with the 200m Freestyle and Dottie started it off with a great first 100 to drop four seconds from her best! Emma almost missed her race, running down the side of the pool to her lane and then went after it right from the start pushing the leaders from lane 7. Emma kept her pace up and ended up third overall, racing to her Provincial time! Brooke kept the momentum going in the next heat with a strong first half to break 2:20 for the first time by three seconds and finish third! Tom went after his race as well, pushing the leader with great breakouts throughout and just got out touched for first at the end while dropping four seconds! Burton also went after his 200 and was very impressive on the third 50 which is always a main focus to finish first with a big best time and .7 away from breaking 2:00! All the things we work on in practice were on display in the 200s, racing with speed early, attacking the walls and working through that hard 3rd 50. Very fun to see it all come together heat after heat!

Success in Sunday finals continued with great 100m Butterfly’s by Brooke, Kinsey and Burton! Brooke was ahead of the field the whole race to win a Gold medal and Burton raced to a Silver medal! Dottie, Freya, Lauryn and Emma all had very good 50m Backstrokes with great starts to get their initial speed up! Lauryn raced to a Silver medal and Dottie finished with a Bronze medal! Freya, Bianca, Calais, Brooke, Stella and Tom all were very fast in their 50m Freestyles! Dottie, Nikki, Bianca and Kinsey were very successful in their 100m Breaststroke finals with Dottie finishing third! Tom kept up his speed from the 50m Breaststroke the night before and raced to a huge best time, narrowly missing another Provincial standard and finishing second! The night ended with the 4x50m Freestyle Relays where our girls teams raced to bronze medals in all three age groups! Dottie, Freya, Bianca and Nikki finished third in the 12&under age group! Emma, Lauryn, Mimu and Calais were third in the 13-14 age group! Kinsey, Brooke, Stella and Maddie raced to third in 15&over girls! Those relays meant that every swimmer who attended the meet brought home at least one medal, a very amazing accomplishment!

We really focused on improving from heats to finals each session with great results both Saturday and Sunday nights! The swimmers showed a lot of resiliency throughout the meet with a lot of racing where they took advantage of their opportunities. Very important to learn what your body is capable of from all the hard work in practice! We still have a few things to work on with our long course racing – maintaining speed on the second half of the length, breathing patterns through races especially on breakouts/finishes and managing themselves between multiple races. A great chance for our team to gain experience traveling and racing in heats and finals! This meet took the place of Kamloops and Kelowna in the past for a spring travel meet and it was exactly what we were looking for with everyone having some big victories throughout the meet!

Hurricanes Development Meet - April 2025

Congratulations to the 23 swimmers who participated in our April Development Meet! It was a very fun and quick swim meet with the swimmers racing every few minutes. Great experience for our swimmers as we now focus on racing at the Whistler Swim Meet on May 24-25!

We have been working on racing the 100m Individual Medley in Swim Academy 1 practices and had five swimmers race the event for the first time! Way to go Noah, Ethan, Alvin, Wyatt and Lily! They all put in a great effort and looked great finishing with strong freestyle! Wyatt also was the first Swim Academy 1 swimmer to race the 50m Butterfly, doing a great job kicking through the second length! Olivia, Audrey and Rose all competed in some 50m events for the first time and we had great efforts leading to new best times by James, Morgan and Bradley!

Swim Academy 2 has been working on improving their endurance so they can swim great races at the start and end of busy meet days and everyone achieved at least 1 best time! Sienna did an excellent job in her 100m Individual Medley and using her stellar freestyle to break 2 minutes for the first time! Hadley did a great job in her breaststroke, using her strong kick to propel herself to a best time! Flora swam her first ever 200m Individual Medley and did a great job finishing strong in the last 25m of the race! Ryan showed great improvement in his breaststroke, helping him to a best time in his 100m Individual Medley! Amelia showed off her freestyle improvements with a great 100m Freestyle best time! Evan and Lydia raced the 200m Free for the first time ever and showed their awesome competitive edges with a tight race all the way to the last stroke!

In Monsoon we have been focusing on rounding out technical skills in all strokes. Chelsea, Maelie, Joelie, and Freya each got best times in their Individual Medley races, showcasing their improvements! Special shout out to Freya for breaking the 10&Under club record in the 100m Individual Medley! In addition to their Individual Medley improvements, Joelie displayed her refined skills in the 50m Backstroke with a great swim and best time, Maelie showed off her endurance and improved technique at the end of the busy session with a 100m Freestyle best time, Chelsea demonstrated the work she has been putting into her breaststroke with a best time in the 50m Breaststroke, and Freya showed her speed breaking 40 seconds for the first time in the 50m Butterfly!

Everyone competed on the 4x25m Medley Relays (Lily even raced twice!) and did a great job sprinting for their teammates! The first heat was won by the team of Noah, Morgan, Lily and Matthew, while Chelsea, Maelie, Freya and Evan posted the fastest time in the second heat!

Surrey Springfest and VPSC Time Trial - April 2025

Our swimmers in Monsoon, Typhoon and Pursuit competed in two different meets as the 13&unders raced at the Surrey Springfest Long Course Meet and the 14&overs raced at the VPSC Spring Tune Up Long Course Time Trial. Both of the meets were a great opportunity for our swimmers to get off the block and race long course, for many it was the first time this season.

At the Surrey meet our 13&under swimmers were really strong starting their lengths! Long course is a different race where they need to keep working on building their stroke on the second half to maintain their speed. Cameron had a great meet, swimming the 400m IM and 400m Freestyle for the first time long course! He also had a very fast 100m Freestyle! Calais was really impressive in her 200m Freestyle, holding her speed really well throughout the race! Mimu raced long course for the first time with impressive results especially in the breaststroke events! Chelsea had a great meet, with really strong 200m results! Holly raced her 400m Freestyle for the first time long course and really kept up her strokerate in her longer events! Pippa had a great meet overall with the highlight probably being the speed in her 100m Butterfly! Lexie also raced her first long course meet and had really strong backstroke and freestyle events! Nicolas raced his first 400m Freestyle long course really well and showed a lot of speed in his 100m Backstroke! Dottie had a great 400m IM breaking six minutes to qualify for Divisionals and had a really strong 100m Breaststroke! Bianca held her speed really well in her longer events!

The VPSC Meet had great racing from our older athletes, with everyone racing to long course best times after many of them have swam long course numerous times this season! The meet started off really well with fast 200m IMs and butterfly events from the team - big drops by Tom, Emma, Burton, Nicolas (raced to Provincial time!), Maddie, Kinsey and Bayden! Lots of improvements in our 200m Backstrokes and sprint breaststroke events! Big efforts in 400m IM, 100m Free and 200m Free to finish the session. A great set up for the next few weekends of long course racing!

Hollyburn Time Trial - April 2025

Congratulations to everyone who participated in our Time Trial on April 17! Swimmers from all groups took part, with Monsoon, Typhoon and Pursuit swimmers racing three events, while Swim Academy swimmers raced one event during their practice time!

We had a number of Swim Academy swimmers participate in their first competition! Congratulations to Brooklyn G, Irene H, Olivia L, Lucas S, Bowen T, Catherine Y and Ian Z who all raced the 100m Freestyle as their first time off the blocks with our team! Leo O also had his first race, completing the 200m Individual Medley! Great to see so many new faces doing a great job finishing longer races to gain experience at meets!

Swim Academy 1 did a tremendous job of their 100m Freestyles! New best times for Cyrus B, James C, Max H, Ethan J, Alvin L, Morgan M, Ella N, Sam S and Wyatt W! A great sign for our upcoming Development Meet on April 27!

Swim Academy 2 was focusing on the 200m Individual Medley and also did a fantastic job! Big best times for Ramona B, Sienna EW and Roniya M! Strong swims setting up for next weekend by Keon T and Amelia W! And we have a new LMR Meet Qualifier with Lydia L racing under the 4 minute mark with a time of 3:58.61!

Monsoon swimmers did a great job racing three events through the session, with everyone first focusing on their 200m Individual Medley and then two other races. Mimu had a huge drop in her 200m IM! Chelsea was great in her 200m IM as well and lowered her 50m Freestyle to within a second of the Divisional time standard! Holly made improvements in both her 200m IM and 50m Breaststroke! Lexie had a very strong 200m Backstroke after a best in the 50m Backstroke!

Swimmers in Typhoon and Pursuit also focused on the 200m Individual Medley to start followed by some speed in a 50 and then trying to carry that speed into a 100m or 200m event. This was our first racing in weeks and the main focus was to get everyone prepared for our upcoming long course meets. We had a few swimmers have some big accomplishments, congratulations to the following: Tom had a great meet, racing to new Divisional times in all three of his races - 200m Individual Medley, 50m Butterfly and 100m Butterfly! Emma raced to a new Divisional standard in the 200m Individual Medley! Lauryn had a big drop in her 200m IM! Cameron was all best times with aggressive racing in the 200m IM, 50m Freestyle and 100m Freestyle! Pippa tried a new race strategy in her 200m Backstroke and did it really well to race to a best time! Nicolas lowered his already fast 200m IM and 100m Freestyle events, while just missing all best times in the 50m Freestyle! Dottie swam a great 200m Butterfly and made big drops in her 50m Butterfly and 200m IM as well! Maddie took off a lot of time in her 200m IM! Kinsey keeps getting closer to a 29 in the 50m Freestyle, now just .33 away! Bianca just missed all bests and had a lot of speed in her backstroke to lower her 50m Backstroke and 200m IM! Bayden set a best time in the 50m Breaststroke holding his speed very well and accelerating through his finish! Nikkie had a great 200m IM taking off a ton of time! Mia got under 3 minutes for the first time in 200m IM and lowered her 100m Freestyle with a strong second half!

At this time trial everyone did a great job of just getting back into racing after a tough month of training, we are really looking forward to results over the next few weekends!

Oceanside Spring Break Training Camp - March 2025

More pictures on our photo page

The swimmers did a lot of work in the pool, over 80,000 yards over the nine days of training! The training included a lot of challenging aerobic capacity sets mixed with technique work focused on underwaters and breakouts. The swimmers managed through a four hour practice (101-120x100s for the workout), over distance training of their number one stroke and a lot of IM work. We had a fun mini meet where Brad’s team of Ava, Keira, Tom, Burton, Nic, Maddie and Kinsey narrowly beat Matt’s team of Ethan, Siena, Nadia, Brooke, Emma, Dottie and himself. A lot of really impressive performances throughout the camp from every swimmer! They surprised themselves sometimes with what they could accomplish while under a lot of work.

We had a lot of fun throughout the camp as well! Dryland is a lot better on beaches with frisbee games after some medicine ball work. We visited Huntington Beach, Coronado Beach and had a few trips to Oceanside Beach. Had a really fun last day surfing at Pacific Beach in San Diego! We made it to a Clippers game and spent a decent amount of time in LA traffic. It was all very fun though as the team really bonded and was such a fun group throughout the trip! So many funny moments and lasting memories for everyone who attended.

A huge thank you to our amazing chaperone Randa! She overfed the swimmers with great meals, kept everyone on task and was up for any of our adventures during the trip! It also made a huge difference to have Matt coaching at the camp. He keeps everyone motivated and focused in and out of the pool!

Hollyburn Development Meet - March 2025

We hosted our second Development Meet of the season on Sunday with 29 Hurricanes competing in 3 individual events and 1 relay each! The team did a great job racing in all their events, producing some awesome results and having a lot of fun! This was a fantastic opportunity to race swimmers from other teams, and our swimmers did an excellent job!

Swim Academy 1 did a great job racing in the 50m Freestyle, 50m Breaststroke, and 50m Backstroke individual events and the 4x50m Freestyle Relay! Our hard work on kick and body position really paid off in all our swims! Going forward, we will focus on our stroke and turn rhythm and timing so we can be off the walls quickly!

Swim Academy 2 did an excellent job honing their skills in the 100 m and 200m Individual Medley races, getting a chance to race all 4 strokes in the same race. Big congratulations to Victoria for breaking 4 minutes and achieving her LMR time in the 200m IM! Swimmers in Swim Academy 2 also raced 50m and 100m races, some of them racing 100m races for the very first time, and the 4x50m Freestyle Relay! Swimmers showed awesome improvements, and everyone achieved at least one best time! Going forward, Swim Academy 2 will focus on improving stroke efficiency and honing turn technique!

Monsoon swimmers had the opportunity to race a variety of different races on Sunday and did so to great success! Maelie showed huge improvement in her Butterfly and Freestyle, breaking 3 minutes for the first time in 200m Freestyle and 40 seconds for the first time in 50m Butterfly! Ryan displayed huge improvements in his Breaststroke, helping him to swim fast in his 200m IM and 100m Breaststroke! Holly did a great job in her Butterfly and Backstroke swimming, showing off the huge improvements she has made it training! Freya did an excellent job in her 200m IM, pacing the race really well and showing off some great technique! Lexie did an excellent job in her 200m Freestyle, showing huge improvements in her stroke! Evan showed off the improvements he has made in his Butterfly and Backstroke, helping him to best times in his 200m IM, 50m Backstroke, and 50m Butterfly!

Thanks to all the parents and swimmers who volunteered to help run the meet!

SwimBC Provincial Championships - March 2025

Our team had a great showing at Provincials! Our swimmers raced to 90% best long course times at the meet, really fast swimming for one of our first long course meets of the year! The first day was a little tough for most swimmers, as the first day of these meets often are. We had an incredible day two with five out of our six swims qualifying for finals! Day three we had great races getting close to medals and day four we had a huge swim by Burton to win Gold in the 50m Breaststroke with a very fast time of 30.12!

Lauryn had a great start to the meet, putting together a very fast 100m Backstroke to qualify for finals in her first Provincials in the 13-14 age group! She raced to all bests throughout the meet!

Brooke had a tough go as she was very sick leading into the meet and even missing her first two events. She came into the meet on Friday and pushed through a 50m Butterfly to qualify for finals and just missed a medal finishing 4th overall .07 off of her best time!

Emma was racing at her first Provincials and raced to all best times in her 100m Freestyle and relay lead-off swims!

Burton came on strong as the meet progressed, racing in the 50m Butterfly, 100m Breaststroke and 50m Breaststroke finals! His 50m Butterfly was a huge drop and just missed his Canadian Trials time to finish 5th! A best time in his 100m Breaststroke finished 4th and qualified him to race the event at Canadian Trials in June! Burton raced to a best in the morning to lead the way in the 50m Breaststroke and then had a huge swim dropping another .4 and finishing with a gold medal in finals!

Nicolas was very impressive throughout the meet, also his first Provincials. He was very busy, racing in finals every session across six freestyle and backstroke events! Nicolas did a great job long course without much past experience and set himself up very well for a huge meet at summer Provincials!

Dottie qualified in the 200m Backstroke at Divisionals for her first Provincials, she did a great job racing to a big best long course time in the morning and then improving the time in finals! She also had a great relay swim in our 4x200m Freestyle Relay!

Kinsey also raced to all best times, lowering her long course times in all three breaststroke events and a big drop leading off our 4x100m Freestyle Relay!

It was a great experience for the team, four day meets are hard to manage and we did a very good job of racing really well throughout the meet. The meet will set us up well for a very exciting long course season after spring break!

SwimBC Winter Divisionals - February 2025

More pictures on our photo page

Winter Divisionals was another exciting meet for our team as we had 18 swimmers compete throughout the weekend! Everyone had some great moments and as always, our swimmers stepped up for our relays each night. These heats and finals performance meets are such a great learning opportunity for our young swimmers. The meet was a great experience that continued to move our team forward as we will aim to build on the results at Provincials in two weeks and then at our next round of performance meets in the summer.

Our team captains led the way at this swim meet, displaying their experience and commitment as they raced to incredible results throughout the meet! Brooke destroyed her 200m Individual Medley best time to qualify for Provincials in the event for the first time while winning the race! Brooke continued racing at a high level throughout the meet, lowering her best times in three freestyle events as well as her best event that she was racing exhibition, the 100m Butterfly! Kinsey made an incredible jump in her 50m Breaststroke that has been a long time coming, dropping a full second to race to her Provincial time and a silver medal! Kinsey followed it up with a bronze medal and new Provincial time in the 100m Breaststroke! She then raced to big best times and new Divisional standards in her 400m Individual Medley and 100m Butterfly! The captains showed their work across all the strokes with big drops in across all of their events throughout the weekend. Both Brooke and Kinsey improved from heats to finals every day, making the necessary adjustments to improve their results. These are incredible traits for every swimmer to have and it has taken a lot of dedication for them to get to this point. They both have stayed committed when they weren’t getting the outcomes they were hoping for in different parts of their swimming careers. It’s never a smooth progression which makes it so rewarding to see both of them achieve the results that they very much deserved!

Pippa had a tremendous meet with an event line up that no one else would have been excited about. Pippa raced the maximum nine events including an 800m Freestyle, both 400m events and four 200m events throughout the weekend! She raced to huge drops in her 200m Individual Medley, 400m Freestyle and 200m Butterfly which led to a bronze medal in the event! Pippa came very close to Provincial times in multiple events, it is always hard to get that first break through and she put herself in a tremendous position for her next two Divisional/Provincials in her age group. After her grueling weekend with some tough back to back events, it was amazing to see her finish with a best time in the 100m Butterfly final to cap off an incredible meet!

Nicolas’s racing skill was on display all weekend as he pushed through to add four more events to his Provincial schedule! Nic had an incredible race in the 50m Freestyle, following a big drop in prelims for the Provincial time, he improved his time again to out touch a swimmer for gold in the final! Nic had his head down for the last 15m of his race to make sure he got his hand on the wall first! He also added Provincial times in the 200m Backstroke, 100m Butterfly and 200m Individual Medley!

Dottie also had a busy schedule with the full nine events, making big improvements in her 400m Freestyle and all three backstroke events! Dottie’s 200m Backstroke was incredible as she took off four seconds in prelims and then improved every 50m split in her final racing to her first ever Provincial time standard and a gold medal!

Lauryn put together a great 100m Freestyle, taking the race out fast in the morning to race to her Provincial time! In finals, Lauryn took the race out even faster and was much better on the second half to drop another second off her time and win the event! She also had a great 50m Butterfly!

Lily was very good at the meet despite some injuries, she continues to race to season best swims in her breaststroke events as her speed is coming more consistent! She also made a big drop in the 400m Freestyle, lots of pull helps!

Emma raced to big best times in her 400m Freestyle and 200m Freestyle with strong strokes building her speed at the end of her races!

Tom raced a little stronger each day finishing with best times on the Sunday in his 200m Breaststroke and 100m Freestyle! Tom had great dives and underwaters throughout the meet!

Noah showed a lot of speed in his races, his swimming speed was there and was just over best times in his sprint events!

Calais had a great meet, racing to a big best times on the first day in her 100m Backstroke and 50m Freestyle! She then had a day out being sick and came back to race a great 100m Freestyle on Sunday!

Bianca made big improvements in her 200m Individual Medley and 100m Freestyle! She also continues to lower her 100m Breaststroke time with a fast first 50!

Nikki did a great job holding her speed in her 100m Backstroke and 200m Backstroke to race to best times! She was also very fast on our relays, racing way under her best 50m Freestyle time in both of her relays!

Freya showed excellent racing skills in her 100m and 200m events, achieving best times in her 100m Backstroke, 200m Backstroke, and 200m Breaststroke! She also had great relay swims where she produced her best relay split in the 50m freestyle each time she stepped up on the blocks!

Mimu showed huge improvements in her 200m Breaststroke and 200m Individual Medley, reaching massive personal bests in both events. She also stepped up in a big way in her 200m Freestyle Relay with a 50m Freestyle best time!

Maelie did a great job in her backstroke swimming, leading her to two huge personal bests in her 100m Backstroke and 200m Individual Medley!

Maddie, Mia and Bayden raced on the relays for our team with each of them supporting the team throughout the weekend! They are all a big part of the team and it was great for them to get to race when everyone is ready to go fast. Maddie stepped up with impressive best times in her 50m and 100m Freestyles on the relays! Mia was her best both times she raced the 50m Freestyle! Bayden showed a ton of improvement in all three of his relays as he is building his swimming base!

This meet was not without challenges, as there is a lot of pressure to perform whether swimmers are at their highest level or building towards other meets. Three day meets are challenging as well, we were very strong on the first day and the best times were a little harder each day into the meet. It is a big skill to learn how to manage recovery during these meets so that you can take advantage of other swimmers feeling tired, it happens to most of the swimmers at the meet! Each pool is different as well and the bulkhead at VAC is often very tough for turns. We have had our share of sicknesses as well leading into and during the meet, the swimmers did a very good job of rebounding from some time out of the water. There are never going to be perfect conditions so it is best to learn to deal with adversity at competitions.

PSW Winter Invitational - February 2025

Five swimmers represented our team at the PSW Winter Invitational this past weekend. It was a great opportunity to race long course as the swimmers focus on preparing for Provincials in March. The swimmers have done a lot of work leading into the meet and gained valuable racing experience working through the meet while racing long course for the first time in a couple of months.

Lauryn lowered her best long course time in three events - 100m Backstroke, 100m Freestyle and 200m Freestyle!
Noah had very solid swims after being out of the water all week, holding a lot of water early in his races!
Brooke also had strong strokes and made a strong improvement in finals to race to her best long course 400m Freestyle!
Burton showed a lot of speed throughout the weekend, highlighted by his best long course times in the 200m Individual Medley!
Kinsey did a great job racing in finals, making big improvements from her preliminary races!

Hollyburn Time Trial / Development Meet - January 2025

We ran a couple of small events during our practice time on Tuesday with great results! Thanks to all the parents who helped officiate to make them happen! First we ran a Time Trial for the Pursuit/Typhoon swimmers as a last chance qualifier for Divisionals as well as another racing opportunity. Then we had a Development Meet for our swimmers in Monsoon and Swim Academy for their first time racing in the new year!

The Development Meet got off to a great start with one heat of the 200m Individual Medley, Mila and Isa raced really well, while Keon and Mila both finished just three seconds over their LMR qualifying standard! Many of the Monsoon swimmers raced over the weekend at the Mies Schootman Meet and listened to their lessons to make great improvements! Way to go Joelie, Maelie, Emilie, Freya, Mimu, Scarlett and Calais too! Swim Academy 2 showed off their work in training racing to best times - Isa, Sarah, Hadley, Flora, Ryan N, Evan S, Mila, Keon and Amelia! Swim Academy 1 has been working on technique in backstroke and freestyle leading into the meet and it showed with great racinging by Cyrus, James, Cadence, Morgan, Emma M, Ella, Wyatt, Bradley, Matthew and Lily Z!

The highlight of our Time Trial was Bianca racing to her first Divisional time standard in the 50m Breaststroke! She was very determined, had great speed right out of the dive and kept her stroke rate up to get under the time standard! The time trial had a lot of fast results for us while swimmers raced to get new standards and continue to hone their racing skills. We had a great 200m Freestyle where Cameron raced to another Provincial time standard beside a fun showdown between Emma and Tom as both made huge improvements! Yunhan was very fast, just missing the Divisional times in all three of his events, racing at a new level of speed! A lot of best times and a lot of narrow misses of standards. Swimming is tough as there is always a new time standard to shoot for. The most important skill is to learn from each race and use that to motivate the day to day training that follows before the next opportunity.

Mies Schootman Invitational - January 2025

More pictures on our photos page!

Very proud of our team after a long weekend of racing! We had 31 swimmers compete at the Mies Schootman Invitational where our team stood out in the pool and on deck! Our team won the Margaret Durwood Award at the meet as the team with the best team spirit! Really showed how much we support each other as the swimmers took it upon themselves to loudly cheer for each other through each and every race!

Our Typhoon/Pursuit swimmers had a hard racing schedule, with many of them racing 14 times over the weekend with a lot of distance events in their racing lineup. At this time in our training it was great to see the strong results in the 200m, 400m and 800m races. The sprinting speed was a little harder for a lot of our swimmers but that will come as we start preparation for Divisionals and Provincials in February/March. A lot of outstanding achievements!
Lauryn keeps making improvements in all of her races and broke 2:20 in her 200m Freestyle!
Cameron held his speed very well for big drops in his 200m Freestyle and 100m Butterfly!
Calais had big improvements from her training, racing under 3:00 in 200m Backstroke and a big drop in her 200m Freestyle and 100m Butterfly!
Emme narrowly missed all best times and showed a lot of speed at the beginning of her races!
Stella had a great meet with great best times in her 100m Breaststroke and 100m Butterfly!
Tom raced really well through a full event schedule, impressive drops in his 800m Freestyle, 400m Individual Medley and 200m Backstroke!
Brooke is in a great place from her training and it really showed across all of her events right on her best times and huge drops in her 400m Individual Medley and 200m Backstroke!
Emma had an amazing 800m Freestyle and 100m Freestyle, just missing all best times!
Burton went out after his races and it lead to great results, under 2:00 in the 200m Freestyle for the first time, some fast 100s and a big best in his 400m Individual Medley!

Hollyburn Time Trial January 18 - January 2025

Our swimmers in Monsoon, Typhoon, and Pursuit had a great opportunity to race at the Hollyburn pool on Saturday morning. The swimmers had a great opportunity to practice some fast swimming in our home pool and show off their resiliency and stamina by stepping up to race at the end of a tough week of training. Thank you to all the volunteers who helped make this event happen!

The Monsoon swimmers did an excellent job at the time trial on just 2 weeks of training since the holiday break. The focus of the meet was to get some more experience swimming fast in the morning and having some fun while executing race plans. Our Monsoon swimmers did an excellent job rising to the occasion and enjoying the process of racing. Congrats to Maelie for achieving her first Divisional times in the 50m and 100m Breaststrokes!

Swimmers in Typhoon and Pursuit raced a variety of different events to cap off a challenging few weeks of training. Our swimmers achieved a slew of best times and raced some events that they have not previously considered possible! Chief among these events was the 400m (anything but) Free, which some of our swimmers raced Breaststroke, Backstroke, and Butterfly. Great job to Kinsey, Tom, and Dottie for completing a 400m Breaststroke, Emma and Pippa for completing a 400m backstroke, and Brooke for completing a 400m Butterfly! Congratulations to Nikki for achieving her first Divisional time in the 50m Breaststroke and Cameron for racing to his first ever Provincial time in the 100m Freestyle!

The performances at this time trial are a great indicator of fast swimming in the coming weeks as we start to attend more competitions and gear up for Divisionals and Provincials.

Our team was competing at two meets to end our fall training cycle with 15 swimmers racing at the Ugly Sweater Invitational in Nanaimo and 3 swimmers racing at the VPSC Winter Invitational at UBC. The Ugly Sweater is a great meet for our team with heats and finals in a smaller competition. Racing twice a day is an incredible way for swimmers to learn from their preliminary swims and improve in finals. Our team really stepped up with a lot of finals each night and some swimmers racing as many as 7 times each day thanks to heats, finals and relays. The VPSC Winter Invitational is a senior meet with heats and finals against most of the top swimmers in our province, outstanding results from Burton, Brooke and Kinsey who all had big breakthroughs at the meet!

Our swimmers who raced in Pointe-Claire and then again at either meet the following weekend really took advantage of the racing opportunity! Everyone really stepped up and built off of their racing the previous weekend – the plan worked!

Highlights from the weekend…

Lauryn made a huge leap in her racing at Pointe-Claire and competed at that higher level at the Ugly Sweater Meet, implementing her stroke rate and racing at a high level throughout!

Calais had a great meet, showing a lot of growth holding her speed in races leading to big drops in her 100m Backstroke, 100m Freestyle and 200m Freestyle events!

Freya was very focused to race to Divisional times, bringing down her best times in all of her events with an aggressive stroke rate throughout each race. Her big moment came in the 50m Breaststroke racing to her first Divisional time standard and setting a new team record!

Stella was on the entire meet, showing her great racing speed across all of her events which was impressive as it was her first time off the blocks this season!

Mimu showed great progress in her 200m Breaststroke and Freestyle taking off a lot of time! She had her biggest moment in finals on Sunday, racing to her first Divisional time standard in the 50m Breaststroke!

Tom raced a very full schedule between heats and finals every day especially after he raced at Pointe-Claire the previous weekend. Tom continued to step up every time he was off the blocks, racing to best times in every event!

Holly showed off her great technique throughout the meet and really stepped up in the 200m Butterfly, racing the event officially for the first time! She implemented her stroke corrections from heats to finals in the 200m Butterfly very well to make a huge improvement the second time through!

Pippa really took a step forward at the meet, dropping significant time in her mid-distance races thanks to her hard work in practice! She broke three minutes in the 200m Butterfly for the first time, closed in on Provincial standards in her 200m Backstroke and had big drops in her 200m Freestyle and 400m Freestyle events!

Nicolas continued to take off time in his events after racing heats and finals at Pointe-Claire and then again in Nanaimo with big efforts in every session! He added another Provincial standard in the 50m Butterfly and narrowly missed by .01 in the 50m Freestyle!

Dottie also raced incredibly well with the Pointe-Claire and Nanaimo double! She swam a lot of different events at both meets adding a bunch of Divisional times and narrowing in on her first Provincial standard just missing her 100m Breaststroke by .3! Back to back big improvements as it was very impressive when she went 1:29 in Pointe-Claire and she improved her breakouts to reach a 1:26 in Nanaimo!

Maddie showed a lot of determination to put together a great meet in Nanaimo racing to a ton of best times and improving on her results from Pointe-Claire the week before!

Bianca also made a huge leap forward with her racing, her strokes are longer and she is beginning to hold the water much better! Bianca just missed all best times and most of the best times were substantial drops!

Nikki was another swimmer with a big meet, racing very well in all strokes and distances throughout her heats and finals! Nikki closed in on Divisional times just missing by .3 in the 50m Breaststroke!

Mia swam very well in all of her events, just missing 100% best times as well! Showing a lot of speed early in her races to get her to those times!

Burton had an outstanding showing at the VPSC Winter Invitational with a busy race schedule against a fast field of BC swimmers! Burton is our first swimmer to break 30 seconds in the 50m Breaststroke, going way under with a time of 29.43! He also had big drops in his 200m IM, 200m Butterfly and 100m Freestyle! Great swimming after his accomplishments in Pointe-Claire!

Brooke really built on her racing at Pointe-Claire to have a great meet at the VPSC Winter Invitational! She swam four 200m Butterfly's over the two swim meets, bettering her time in each race to break 2:30 for the first time! She also swam to big bests in her 100m Butterfly and 50m Butterfly!

Kinsey had a huge moment in her 200m Breaststroke racing to her first 15&over Provincial time! It was impressive considering she was battling a sickness into the meet and she raced to a great preliminary swim just over the standard and put it all together in finals! Again building on her racing at Pointe-Claire the week before!

These meets are a great sign for the fast racing that will come in the new year! Swimmers will focus on racing at Divisionals, Provincials and Nationals throughout the rest of the season!

Our team traveled to Montreal to race in one of the fastest age group meets in the country, the Pointe-Claire Invitational. We had a great team showing from our 12 swimmers as we competed at our first heats and finals meet of the season!

Lauryn displayed her racing speed throughout the meet and stepped up to make corrections from prelims to finals to make big break throughs each night! She raced to gold medals in both the 100m Backstroke and 200m Backstroke racing to Provincial times in both events. Her 100m Backstroke was especially great winning her the top swim of her age group based on the highest scoring Fina points for her time of 1:08.50!

Noah was one of two swimmers to compete in the faster group 3 side of the swim meet for our team. He showed progress in his breakout speed, getting out fast on his transitions from underwater to swimming on his dives and turns. He was strong throughout his 200m Backstroke racing to a best time!

Brooke shook off a tough start to race to a bronze medal in the 50m Freestyle and have an impressive day of racing on Sunday to finish the meet. Sunday finals started off with a big swim off win in the 100m Freestyle, another fast 100m Freestyle in finals a few minutes later and then followed it with an important improvement in the 200m Butterfly as well as a fast relay split!

Emme really stepped up to qualify for the meet making big improvements in her freestyle and breaststroke events! She took another step forward at the meet, racing to best times in her sprint events! Emma had a huge 50m Freestyle split on a relay breaking 30 for the first time and came so close in her 50m Freestyles with two 30.0 finishes!

Tom has already dropped a ton of time this season, qualifying for the meet and racing to his first divisional time standard. He continued to improve racing to another divisional time in the 100m Freestyle, broke 30 seconds for the first time in the 50m Freestyle and finished with a big final swim in his 100m Breaststroke on Sunday night!

Emma overcame an unfortunate pre-meet ankle injury and made the best of her dives and pushoffs to race stronger throughout the meet. She had an incredible swim in the 100m Freestyle final on Sunday night, dropping two seconds and racing to her first Provincial time standard!

Burton had an outstanding meet, racing in the faster group and finishing with three medals. Gold in the 100m Breaststroke, Bronze in the 200m Breaststroke and Bronze in the 50m Freestyle with best times in all events! He also raced to a best time in the 200m IM with a great prelims swim!

Nicolas was out of the water most of the last three weeks after being sick but it did not show at the swim meet. He raced to all best times and raced in five finals always improving from prelims! He finished with two new Provincial time standards in the 200m Freestyle and 100m Freesteyle while just missed three more by less than a second!

Dottie had a fantastic meet, racing to big best times in her events by racing with strokerate early and doing a great job of holding on. She just missed finals in all of her events, it was really too bad that there was no B finals for the 11-12 year olds. Her 100m and 200m Breaststroke events were especially strong, racing under 1:30 for the first time!

Maddie put everything into her races and showed her fast strokerate we’ve been working on in practice in all of her races. She was very resilient and raced under her best time in her 200m IM to finish the meet!

Kinsey surprised herself, but not her coach, with some big improvements from prelims to finals! She handled adversity well and worked on focusing on the process to race to a big 200m Breaststroke final and a new divisional time in the 200m IM!

Lily has been limited to a lot of pull the last few weeks and her hard work paid off with a strong finish for a big drop in her 200m Freestyle! Then she was able to make it back for a once in a lifetime experience.

The swimmers stepped up at the end of each session to race to best times for their teammates. The girls relays were particularly strong just missing medals and finishing 4th in the 4x50m Medley Relay (Lauryn, Kinsey, Brooke, Emma) as well as 5th in the 4x50m Freestyle Relay (Emme, Brooke, Emma, Lauryn). The boys stepped up as well with everyone hitting bests during the meet - Noah, Burton, Tom and Nic! We had fast mixed relays the first day which really jump started the meet for some swimmers, congrats to Emma, Lauryn, Nic and Tom as well as Burton, Noah, Brooke and Emme!

There were some ups and downs for everyone at the meet. It was really impressive watching swimmers have tough races and turn around to be really successful at other moments. The training has put the swimmers in a position to race at there best, but there is a lot of learning to do for everyone to reach their best consistently. This meet was an important step towards all the fast swimming we will accomplish this season. The critical next step is how the swimmers respond to training and future training from the lessons that they learnt at the competition.

We now head to competitions at UBC and in Nanaimo to build on this competition and set up the rest of our season!
